Moral Values Must Be Taught in School  -- NOT!

Source

[Karl Note:  I disagree with part of this.  CONGRESS should not pass a law about what is moral. That takes "morals" and puts them into a force procedure -- morals can never be effective when forced onto someone. Children, particularly, will resist forced "morals."

Morals are often enacted into laws, particularly when people see that the non-force moral is not being followed and some legislative body feels that a law is required to enforce the moral code.

In any event it is the PARENT that must teach morals -- not force them, but teach the child that his or her own survival is enhanced when they behave according to a common sense moral code.

The code, below, includes a terribly harmful rule:

14. ACCEPT YOUR PLACE IN LIFE AND BE HAPPY; OTHERWISE YOU WILL ALWAYS BE UNHAPPY. IF YOU BELIEVE YOU CAN ADVANCE, GO FOR IT.

Your place in life? What type of socialist junk is that?  One of the most harmful things you can do to a child is to suppress him down to accepting what he has as all that he can have.  That is the role which psychiatrists play in our society -- adopt to what exists, live with it, rather than do something about it and improve it.

The material on this page includes some dubious "code material" and suggests that teachers should be the ones to teach morals, and that  Congress should require this.  All very wrong ways to go!]

Moral Values Must Be Taught in School

Wilson C. Lucom
Thursday, May 16, 2002

Mr. Michael Vatus, FBI National Director, Infrastructure Protection, recently said, "One of the most important ways of reducing crime is trying to teach ethics and morality to our kids."

Teachers teach. To eliminate youth crime, students must be taught by teachers in school, from grades 3 through 12, a Code of Moral Values of how to be law-abiding adults.

The Supreme Court has ruled that the Ten Commandments cannot be taught in schools because of the principle of separation of church and state. Religion cannot be taught in schools. So religion is taken out of the Ten Commandments and what remains are legal moral values.

Only four of the Ten Commandments are religious. The six non-religious moral values can be taught in school. Legally, even though a non-religious moral value code can be taught, none is presently taught. As a result, no value system is taught to our youth and this is why they commit crimes.

If we want law-abiding adults, it is imperative that our young people have a moral value system by which to live. Many parents do not have or know a moral code that they can teach to their children, so it is up to schools to teach a moral code. Through constant repetition the students can be taught to have a moral value system and grow up to be law-abiding citizens.

We call on Congress to pass a Moral Value Code to be taught in all schools.

CODE OF MORAL VALUES
by Wilson C. Lucom

1. YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER.

2. YOU MUST NOT STEAL.

3. YOU MUST NOT LIE.

4. YOU SHALL NOT TAKE GUNS OR KNIVES TO SCHOOL.

5. YOU MUST NEVER TAKE DRUGS. At your age you do not realize that drugs can scramble your brain and ruin your life. Don't start taking drugs.

6. YOU MUST RESPECT AND HONOR YOUR PARENTS. Unless they physically abuse you.

7. YOU MUST NOT HATE. You can disagree with someone but do not hate him.

8. YOU MUST NOT BE JEALOUS. Jealously creates much personal unhappiness.

9. YOU MUST NOT BE A RACIST OR BIGOT. Do not judge people by the color of their skin. Respect them for what they are, not what they look like. Respect religions other than yours.

10. OBEY THE GOLDEN RULE. Do to others as you would want them to do to you.

11. NEVER USE ALCOHOL UNTIL YOU ARE AN ADULT. Then use it only in moderation so you do not get drunk. Drunkenness can ruin your marriage and life.

12. ONLY GAMBLE THE AMOUNT YOU CAN AFFORD TO LOSE, NO MORE. Otherwise, you will lose your marriage, your home, everything you own if you are a compulsive gambler.

13. OBEY THE LAW. If you do not like the law, request your congressman to change it; but obey the law until it is changed.

14. ACCEPT YOUR PLACE IN LIFE AND BE HAPPY; OTHERWISE YOU WILL ALWAYS BE UNHAPPY. IF YOU BELIEVE YOU CAN ADVANCE, GO FOR IT.

15. IF YOU ACCEPT THIS MORAL VALUE CODE, YOU WILL EARN MORE MONEY, NOT GO TO JAIL, AND HAVE A HAPPIER LIFE.
